📱 Energy labelling requirements for Smartphones and Tablets

Ecodesign requirements will apply to smartphones, feature phones, cordless phones, and slate tablets placed on the EU market from 20 June 2025 onwards. Energy Labelling requirements will apply from the same date for smartphones and slate tablets.

These rules do not apply to tablet computers, to products with flexible main display (roll-up), and smartphones for high-security communication. The regulations focus on measures to extend product lifetime (reparability, upgradability, battery life).

Status: Active enforcement - Tablet and mobile phone manufacturers must prepare their products for energy labelling before June 20.

🔍 What it means for consumer electronics companies: If you're placing phones or tablets on the EU market, you must redesign packaging and documentation to comply with the new labelling and ensure battery lifecycle and reparability meet the minimum standards before the June 2025 deadline.

National Technical Regulations for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVC) in Vietnam

On April 28, the Commission for Standards, Metrology, and Quality of Vietnam (STAMEQ) published a new technical regulation for all electric vehicle charging stations, including those for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) that use AC or DC charging technology.

The regulation will come into force from June 15, 2025, and requires all new charging stations manufactured, assembled, or imported to comply with these standards before they are placed on the market.

This draft national technical regulation does not apply to wireless electric vehicle charging posts and wired electric vehicle charging posts for electric buses, electric trains, heavy trucks, and electric vehicles designed primarily for off-road use.

Status: Active enforcement - Please provide a complete list of the conformity assessment methods used to certify products before June 15.

🔍What it means for consumer electronics companies: If you're manufacturing or exporting EV-related products to Vietnam, start preparing conformity documentation now. Certification must be in place before shipment or assembly, or you risk non-compliance at customs.
